Black Bean Brownies

Who would’ve thought black beans and brownies would be used in the same sentence. They are delicious, moist and very chocolaty! Perfect healthy alternative to the processed brownies you see at the store. You will be shocked when you taste them, they are that good!

Black Bean Brownies

INGREDIENTS

1 can (15oz) black beans, drained & rinsed
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup olive oil or coconut oil
2 tbsp cocoa powder
1/2 cup oats
1/2 tsp baking powder
Chocolate chips (I used about 1/2 cup)

DIRECTIONS

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 350*F
    2. Combine all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth, except chocolate chips
    3. Stir in half of the chocolate chips into batter once blended and pour into an oiled 8×8 pan or cupcake tins
    4. Sprinkle remaining chocolate chips on top and bake for 15mins. Let cool for 10 minutes before diving in
    Recipe makes about 9 squares/cupcakes, or 12 mini cupcakes

Hi Andy,

I tried the Black Bean Brownie recipe. I have a few questions, is the can of black beans of 15oz can? How much chocolate chips do you use?

I used a 15 oz can of beans and 1/2 cup of chips, but I did not sprinkle any on top. Mine did not look like yours. they were smooth so I am not sure if I over processed my mixture in the blender or what.

Hey Vee! Yes, the can is 15oz :) Great question, I’ll updated that now! And yes, 1/2 cup is fine. I left that open because it varies.

Aww I’m sorry, did they taste good at least? Yes, maybe don’t blend it 100%, leave a few chucks of oats. The steps I did it in were first blending the beans and olive oil until smooth, then I added the rest of the ingredients. Try that out! Make sure you’re using an 8×8 and let them cool at the end!

Thank you, and yes they tasted great. I should have stated that first, I took them to a function and they were a hit, and I plan on trying them again!
