When I first started running I was completely clueless. My choice of shoes were based solely off of looks. The brighter the better! Since then I have started to understand the importance of this decision. I went from wearing Nike Frees, to Mizunos, to what I prefer today, the Lunarglide 6.
As an experienced runner, I enjoy the stability, comfort, and bouncy-ness that the Lunarglide 6 provides me with. I have put 30+ miles on these shoes already and can’t wait to continue training in them for my Chicago Marathon and the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in SF!
I used to run without a care in the world but since my IT Band injury, I have realized there are certain things EVERYONE needs to pay attention to.
Shoes are one of them.
So back to my original questions, what brand? what size? what type?
I have personally always been a fan of Nike. I feel they provide me with the perfect blend of style and functionality.
Size is important as well, make sure you have enough room. Breaking toe-nails is no fun. So if you are a size 7, don’t feel guilty if a size 7.5 running shoe is more comfortable.
As far as what type of shoe, its up to you! Try out different shoes and find out works for you. Be aware of your goals and pay attention to the type of shoe that might help you accomplish them.
And no matter what you do, no matter what kind of shoe you are wearing, remember that the only person you need to be competing with is the person you were yesterday.
Do your best and have fun!
